Aeronautical Engineer

Summary

Conduct general engineering and design of aircraft structures and aero-mechanical systems on small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) with both fixed wing and rotary wing design.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineering and design of aerodynamic structures and mechanical systems for small UAS and payload systems.
  • Creation of new flight vehicles from a provided list of specifications.
  • SolidWorks modeling of components and designs.
  • Simulation-based analysis to prove design before prototyping.
  • Analysis and material selection of designed components, investigating the use of new materials, or improving existing materials.
  • Design targeting highly constrained size, weight, and power environments.
  • Attend and present design reviews.
  • Transition from SolidWorks models to rapid prototyping and production tooling.
  • Facilitate rapid creation of initial parts, learn in-house processes.
  • Work closely with other engineers, technicians, manufacturers, and suppliers to support current designs.
  • Develop manufacturing procedures for designed components.
  • Support flight test operations, and develop bench and flight test procedures.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Use industry standards for drawings and drawing control systems.

Required Skills

  • A MS degree in Aerodynamics or Aeronautical/Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Practical experience in Aerodynamics, Mechanical Systems, Materials
  • Experience with air foil modeling (e.g., XFOIL)
  • Experience with MATLAB and Simulink based modeling
  • Able to maintain a security clearance

Recommended Skills

  • Extensive experience in the UAS industry.
  • Experience with SolidWorks.
  • Hands on Design experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Autopilot development or tuning experience.

Electrical Design Engineer

Summary

Conduct general engineering and design of electrical/electronic systems for small unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and other small robotics.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Engineering and design of electrical systems for small aerial and ground robotic platforms and payload systems, involving a mix of digital and analog electronics
  • Designs target highly constrained size, weight, and power environments requiring advanced layout techniques
  • Designs frequently involve integration of advanced sensors, high-frequency digital signaling, and RF radiators in close proximity
  • Participate in definition of design parameters and specifications at a component level
  • Simulation-based analysis to prove design before prototyping
  • MentorGraphics software for schematic design and PCB layout
  • Attend and present design reviews
  • Design of cable, wire harness, and other interconnects
  • Generate design support material including bills of material, schematic prints, layout prints, interconnect diagrams, cable lengths, routing details, impedance reporting, etc.
  • Embedded programming to support design testing
  • Integration tests to verify functional operation
  • Generating test fixtures and test procedures for system level test
  • Assume design responsibility, using the relevant ISO quality procedures as guidelines, through all the development phases, up to and including engineering release
  • Support prototype build, test, evaluation and validation
  • Communicate with suppliers and customers as required
  • Some travel may be required

Software Engineer

Summary

We are looking for a passionate and curious engineer to join our software development team. Our ideal candidate has a strong background in C++ development or embedded systems development. A desire to grow, learn, and explore is a must.

You will be asked to design, implement, and maintain the various software subsystems required on small Unmanned Aerial Systems. Areas include platform control, mission planning, video compression and transmission, image processing, wired and wireless network communication, payload control, and data analysis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, debug and provide ongoing support for system software that meets technical and customer requirements
  • Continuously accept and incorporate customer and end user feedback to further improve our products
  • Conduct and participate in code and design reviews
  • Passionately and respectfully champion new ideas and features, big or small
  • Document designs with ample comments, reports, descriptions, issue tracking and resolution
  • Develop reusable software and system components, and integrate these into existing and new designs
  • Work closely with electrical engineers in planning, design and development of systems to ensure software and hardware performance and compatibility
  • Serve as technical lead on projects as assigned, working with customers to meet deliverables and address and resolve technology or system issues
  • Support flight test operations (some travel may be required)
